The Deadly 720 and an Intriguing Hyundai Elantra

Those used to the 'zany' antics of the folks at Top Gear will no doubt be familiar with their (often) foolhardy attempts at record-breaking. Whether it involves high speeds, Clarkson's undulating grimace, or even caravans; they very often fall a little short of the mark.

This time, however, the Top Gear team came out on top. More than likely because they weren't directly involved in the stunt itself - which, by the way, involved completing a full loop-the-loop... Twice.

For those of you not aware, Top Gear Live is an event showcased around the world, a mixture of stunts, smarmy cynicism and a selection of slick automobiles. It was at the most recent Top Gear Live that the 'Deadly 720' (as it was called) took place.

The Top Gear Live team took care of the driving, something that the Top Gear hosts were probably thankful for, as this was a dangerous task indeed. The smallest miscalculation could prove to be fatal.

To complete the loop-the-loop successfully the driver had to maintain a steady speed between 24mph and 26mph. Any less than this and gravity would catch up on the car halfway around the loop - any faster than this though, the driver would likely pass out from the extra G of force.

Despite failing in the two practice runs the driver managed to pull off the full 720 without a hitch, quite an impressive feat. The momentous, record-breaking achievement was probably met with some slow claps from Clarkson and chums, possibly even the waving of a hanky.

Now, if you thought that a human swirling vertically around in a hunk of metal was strange, check out what else has happened in the world of automobiles. Hyundai have launched a strange and rather out-of-place campaign of commercialism.

Comic book readers are a strange demographic to target when marketing a new model car -which is why so many people are scratching their heads in shock, disdain and confusion at Hyundai's latest efforts.

Created by Robert Kirkman, cult zombie fiction 'The Walking Dead' is one of the most popular comics in the industry and is nearing its mammoth 100th issue. To celebrate this, Kirkman and Hyundai have teamed up to create a special, zombie-killing edition of the Hyundai Elantra.

We only have the concept drawings to show so far - apparently, however, a full version has been created and will be shown at the ever-popular Comic-Con. What do you think of this strange and intriguing publicity stunt? Shrewd way to tackle a new market, or flaccid attempt at 'being cool'?
