Renault targets Fiat, Citroen with new Twingo
Summary
The Renault Twingo is moving upmarket and it has the Fiat 500 and Citroen DS3 firmly in its sights.
The two stylish, highly customisable small city cars will face competition from the start of 2012 when Renault upgrades the Twingo with a new look and new colour options, it has revealed.
Labelling it 'a Twingo for everyone', Renault has upgraded the new Twingo to feature the new face of the brand for the first time.
This means it sticks close to the Renault DeZir concept, a stunning electric car revealed 12 months ago on Paris.
A new front grille, more pronounced headlamps either side and more upright and larger Renault badge are just some of the changes to the small city car.
Features such as an electric fabric sunroof and 17 different alloy wheels and wheel trims are added to the new Twingo alongside two new body colours.
Renault has also introduced five new roof graphics - something the Citroen DS3 in particular introduced with great success in 2010.
These will be complemented by a choice of colour for the door mirrors and a choice of interior upholstery to create unique colour combinations to meet customer's tastes.
The Renault Twingo will also compete with the DS3 and Fiat 500 in terms of environmental credentials. New Renault diesel engines reduce CO2 emissions to as low as 119g/km - although is still some way off the sub-100g/km CO2 emissions offered with its rivals.
However, the new 2012 Renault Twingo is expected to undercut the Fiat and Citroen offerings in price by a large amount.
On sale in January 2012, the Renault Twingo is set to be offered as a less expensive stylish and customisable car in the UK.
