Lessons Learnt from Will.i.am

Earlier today rapper Will.i.am was unfortunate enough to experience the heartbreak of car theft. His prized automobile was a prototype for his new company, IAMAUTO. It was created by the folks at West Coast Customs using parts from a Dodge Challenger and a Delorean.

Almost immediately Will.i.am took to Twitter to vent his anger and insist his car be given back. The poor guy, who is obviously a huge automotive fan, will hopefully get his wheels back soon. It's not exactly the most inconspicuous of vehicles and, considering his celebrity status, it'll be hard to keep hidden from the law.

Unfortunately we couldn't censor poor grammar and unnecessary hash tags. Unfortunately we couldn't censor poor grammar and unnecessary hash tags.

What can we take away from this? The most obvious solution to any stolen vehicle problem would be to not let your car get stolen in the first place. However, in some cases the preventative methods used can be bypassed by those sneaky thieves.

If you're unfortunate enough to fall foul of a seedy criminal then you need to know what you should do. First port of call will obviously be to inform your local police station. Make sure that you have all of the necessary details, such as; make, model, colour, registration number etc.

The police will be able to give you a crime reference number, which can be used for insurance purposes. Your insurance company is actually the next group you should contact. Find out what can be done and what you can claim back if the vehicle isn't recovered. Your crime reference number is also used when seeking a refund for your vehicle tax.

Hopefully you can put this information to use if the worst happens. For more information contact your local police station and find out what procedures you should follow to make your vehicle harder to steal.
