Kia passes landmark export figure
Summary
Kia reached a landmark milestone yesterday as it exported its ten millionth vehicle with a delivery scheduled for North America.
The Kia Optima left Pyeongtaek Port, l which is the Korean manufacturers main export centre, and Vice President for Marketing and Product Planning, Benny Oeyen was obviously proud of the achievement saying:
"The last year was an exceptionally positive one for Kia Motors, and we expect to build on our momentum through 2011,
“The fact that half of our 10 million global exports have been achieved in the past five years is further proof that our design-led product revolution has achieved its aim of establishing Kia as a major player in the global automotive market."
Kia matched its achievement in Europe with its Slovakian production plant – in Žilina – also breaking an output record for 2010.
The facility produced 229,500 cars last year which was a 53 per cent increase on output from 2009. Its engine production also increased by 31 per cent with 320,900 powertrain units leaving the plant’s doors.
Kia was quick to credit the Sportage with its achievement, with Oeysen labelling it a ‘catalyst for our growth’.
