Kia announces new concept car
Kia will unveil another unique concept car at the Seoul Motor Show in the form of an all-electric CUV (crossover utility vehicle).
Called the Naimo electric, the latest oddball concept from Kia looks like a cross between the Soul MPV and the Sportage crossover SUV.
It is a chunky, square model with simple lines but features a number of key details including a wraparound windscreen, asymmetric sunroof and LED positioning lamps.
According to the Korean manufacturer the Naimo electric will also feature a premium range of technology to ‘ensure the car’s exterior remained uncluttered.’
To that end Kia has done away with a traditional wiper blade on the windscreen and instead uses a high-intensity air jet at the foot of the windscreen – providing an air wipe. Wing mirrors have also been replaced by rear-facing cameras in the Naimo’s A-pillars.
There are no B-pillars on the model and it uses rear-hinged doors to aid practicality and accessibility – a theme also seen on the three-way split opening boot lid.
Kia has gone typically quirky in its interior as it looks to ‘evoke a strong sense of tranquility’ through the use of Korean oak for floor and door panels, while Korean Han-ji paper is used for the majority of lining.
Kia was quick to point out that the Naimo electric also features high-tech features and equipment with Chief Design Officer, Peter Schreyer saying:
“Naimo is a perfect balance of innovation, high-tech and Korean tradition. It was heavily inspired by the purity and grace of traditional Korean arts and crafts, but combines this with cutting edge technologies to deliver a truly premium experience."
The four-seat electric model is powered by a Permanent Magnet Synchronus Motor with a maximum output of 80kW and a top speed of 93mph. A twin-pack 27kW Lithium Ion Polymer battery drives the motor and allows a range of 124 miles on a single charge.
